Oh, That Special Day
Since I've been thinking about weddings a lot recently I thought I'd post some questions.
1. What is your favorite part of a wedding or favorite thing about going to a wedding?
2. What do you dislike?
3. If your friend were to ask you to be in their wedding what would be the worst "job" they could ask you do? (groomsman, candlelighter, transport parents, take pictures, pass out cake, ect.).
4. What would you most like to do?
Well, for me...
1. The best part at a wedding is watching the groom's face as he first sees the bride. She's coming down the aisle, he's smiling, wait...is he tearing up!? Oh man, that's the best. The look of love.
2. I hate when the couple gets freaky while taking that garter off. I don't want to see that guy under that girl's dress. Get a room! Wait! You have a room... could you wait another 2 hours please? It makes me want to burn garters.
Moving on... 3. I'd have to say that trying to pin on all of the boutanierres was pretty stressful...and dangerous. Okay, having instructions would have helped, but just trying to not get stabbed while getting "looks" from the guests of honor who did not want their precious clothing to have holes... guh! Seemingly easy task, but no thanks.
4. Hm. I didn't really even think of an answer when I asked this question. I supposed I would really like to be the flower girl. HAhaha... yes, that is a cheaters answer. But, really...you get to dress up, throw flowers, and then you sit down at the end of the aisle. Everyone thinks you're cute (assuming you are a little kid). Oh, and no worries if you don't even make it to the end of the aisle! (everyone understands).
Now it's your turn, tell it like it is.

My favorite part of the wedding is fooooood :D hahah. ohh and i love the wedding vows. i don't know why :)
what i dislike... is if there is no dancing at the end.
the worst job?? the wedding planner?? i don't know.. i haven't worked at any weddings before.. except when i was flower girl :)
i would like to get married :) HAHA!
laura boo i need to talk to u about what you talked to me about on sunday :) i will talk to u this friday..
Hahah.. I see through your thinly-veiled ploy to find out where to enlist people to help at your wedding, Laura! j/k.
I'll have to think about the answers to these questions. It's so hard to pick just one good/bad thing! Actually, after staring at this blank comment box for the last 7 minutes, I might actually write a whole wedding-related blog post about it instead, when I have time. Hehe.
I think my favorite part of the wedding the anticipation before/when the bride walks down the aisle. She's always so beautiful when she reveals herself. At least at the weddings I've been invited to. So if i didn't get invited to your weddinig, the bride was probably ugly! hahahah... Garter toss aint bad either, especially if you're among a bunch of your close guy friends and one person, namely me, goes all out and dives for it.
What I dislike is a freaked out couple or groom/bride. They need to relax on their day and be happy. Cuz if they're not happy, it's hard for me to be happy. I also dislike sitting at a table where there is zero compatibility with those sitting there. It can be a very long night if you can't really talk to anyone because they're a bunch of introverts or they're just caught up talking to the table next to them the whole night. I'd rather sit at the kiddie table than sit with some stuck up people I've never met. Gah!
Worst job would probably be something menial like trash pick up or clean up crew. Just seems so "bottom of the food chain" when it comes to asking your friends to be a part of your wedding. But someones gotta do it, so if it were my wedding, I would be extra thankful for those people who do the dirty/grunt work that no one sees or appreciates.
The best job to me is being a groomsman. It just means that you're recognized as a close friend and you can't take a much bigger part of the wedding than being right up there at the alter. Getting all dressed up matching with the groom. It's like the biggest compliment to get asked. Bonus: you get in with the bridesmaids too! hahahah.... if not that, then being any part of the ceremony would be great.
Hi Laura! I haven't talked to you in a while. I like your wedding post =) My favorite part of the wedding is singing hymns/songs about Christ's redemptive work (obviously this only happens at Christian weddings). I think being at a wedding and singing those songs is such a powerful image of what is to come when Christ returns =) I don't really know what I dislike (probably the garter thing too. Gross.)... but the "job" that has been my least favorite so far has been washing greasy dishes and the fondue fountain. Those things are a nightmare to take apart and wash... especially while wearing a dress and heels, etc. And they clog the sink and you're left having no idea what to do with the chocolatey, drippy mess. Buuuuut I guess someone has to do it. I like weddings, and I'm excited about yours =)
#1.. favorite part would be just seeing the couple together after the wedding.. they are so relaxed and happy.. and unfortunately.. usually exhausted.
#2.. i dislike.. it when the pastor cracks too many jokes. its cool if the pastor knows the b&g.. but i went to one wedding where it was just nonstop inside jokes from the pastor/officiator.. boo
#4.. my favorite thing to do would be to.. be the one who kinda just chills at the end of the isle.. as my bride walks to me. wohoo!! cant wait : )
o, btw.. im not sure why i got turned down from the savings account, but im pretty sure its not cause i dont have kids.. cause they never asked me for that info
happy wedding planning!!
Here you go!! http://www.jamesszeto.com/journal/2008/05/03/wedding-roles/
Aww, let's make that clickable. James Szeto Journal: Wedding Roles
james is a nerd.
steph already basically stole what i'd say, except for her dislike part.
i will make some amendments, however:
1. my favorite thing about weddings is when you get to see how the bride and groom each individually are loving and pursuing Christ and the anticipation for how much their coming together will increase that! it's awesome when the gospel is shared at weddings, and same w/ the hymns. all of it is an unspeakably beautiful picture of Christ's future union with His Church and what we'll be doing on that occasion (and forever afterward!)
2. my least favorite part would be when girls use this occasion as an excuse to be immodest. as is often the problem w/ finding clothing for special occasions in general, a lot of the dresses tend to be spaghetti strap/halter/strapless/etc. just b/c it's a special occasion doesn't mean that guys' minds function any differently or that God changes His standard for women to honor Him in their bodies (1 cor 6:20), so cover it up! even if girls don't think it's a problem for their purity, the purity of their brothers should be worth it for them to actually try to honor God in that sense.
3. i think the worst job for me would be anything that involves being highly visible/alone. just b/c i'm like that :)
4. i don't really know what i'd most like to do. probably be a bridesmaid for a family member/close friend :D (no, it doesn't conflict w/ #3!)
i am excited for you for your wedding too!!
